EVENTS 2020-2021
SPIC MACAY PROGRAMS
The Dyal Singh College Chapter of VIRASAT SERIES of SPIC MACAY (April, 2021). The Dyal Singh College Chapter of VIRASAT SERIES of SPIC MACAY (Society for the Promotion of Indian Classical Music And Culture Amongst Youth) was organized with Dr. Navina Mehan as Teacher Coordinator for SPIC MACAY wherein the three following events were organized in online mode.
On 12th April, 2021, a ‘Virtual Heritage Walk’ of National Gallery of Modern Art was organized. On 13th April, 2021 an online mesmerizing ‘Hindustani Classical Vocal Recital’ was performed by renowned classical singer Shri Omkar Shrikant Dadarkar. On 16th April, 2021, an online ‘Odissi Dance Recital’ was given by S.N.A. awardee Vidushi Sujata Mohapatra which left the online participants spell-bound. The events were well organized and well attended and open to all public via zoom and youtube.
ANNUAL CULTURAL FESTIVAL ‘PRIYADARSHANI, 2021’
The Art and Culture Society organized the Annual Cultural Festival -PRIYADARSHANI’21 in ONLINE mode from 2nd - 18th April, 2021. In spite of the pandemic, a great effort was put in by the students and by Dr. Navina Mehan as Art and Culture co-ordinator and conveners Dr. N. Sachin, Dr. Sunil Mandiwal, Dr. Manjit, Dr.Yamini, Dr. Shivranjani, and members, Dr. Minakshi, Dr. Anjana Mathur and other respected members. Various inter-college competitions were held in online mode with participation of students from all over Delhi University and other Institutions. The events organized by the various societies during Priyadarshani as well as during 2020 - 2021 IN ONLINE MODES are as follows:
ROOTS: THE INDIAN MUSIC SOCIETY
Roots organised Sursadhana on 3rd April, 2021, with participation from talented musicians from all over India. It consisted of three inter college competitions - Shruti- Indian Classical Solo Singing, Swar- Light Solo Singing and Goonj- Classical Instrumental Solo. Our student members bagged different positions in the Semi classical and Light Solo category of competitions organized by many institutes like IIT Delhi, Miranda House, SGTB Khalsa, SSCBS, Maitreyi, Ramjas, Janki Devi Memorial College, Shaheed Rajguru college of Applied Sciences for Women, Lady Irwin College, BVICAM, Maharaja Agrasen College, and Kamala Nehru College. Our Instrumentalists also won competitions organized by Lady Irwin College and BVICAM. ROOTS collaborated with Ritva Foundation, an NGO, and organized an online fundraising event Taal-E-Tarang with the purpose of raising funds towards reducing period poverty amongst women during the pandemic, de-stigmatizing and promoting menstrual health awareness. A series of 10 Instagram lives of extremely talented musicians were put together over a period of 20 days in the month of November 2020. Audiences joined in large numbers during the live sessions and all the proceeds from the event went to the NGO to help them promote the noble cause.
JAMINI: THE FINE ARTS SOCIETY
JAMINI organised ‘Artism, 2021’ from 8th to 11th April, 2021 wherein various competitions such as Inter-college Live Book Cover Designing, Live Best out of waste , Live Doodle with passion and Live Face painting competitions were held. Apart from this, Jamini stay at home series was organized to showcase the talent of Jamini's members and present their artwork they have made in lockdown. Watercolour workshop was organised to make interested artists from different colleges learn about the fundamentals of watercolour art and was conducted by a renowned artist and professor Mr. Shashank Shukla of Delhi College of Art. It was a huge success and more than 150 artists joined the event. Also, Artist week was organised to feature the artwork of artists from different institutes in our official social media handles. Our student members also won more than ten accolades in the current academic year, at Aurobindo college, Delhi college of Arts and Commerce PGDAV, Lady Irwin College etc.
XPOSURE: THE FILM AND PHOTOGRAPHY SOCIETY
XPOSURE hosted ‘Encanto’2021’ from 3rd - 5th April, 2021 in online mode with Inter-college competitions like ‘Flick’ the short film making competition, ‘Acros’ the photography competition and ‘Render’ the photo recreation competition. Xposure also organized an online Photography Workshop by renowned documentary photographer Ms. Garima Aggarwal on 5th April, 2021. Our students secured MORE THAN 50 PRIZES in various online Inter-college events in photography and film making in esteemed institutes like IIT, Delhi and colleges of DU like St. Stephen’s college, Delhi College of Arts and Commerce, ARSD College, DDUC, Kalindi College, Aurobindo college, Rajdhani College etc.
COGNITIO: THE DEBATING SOCIETY
COGNITIO organized the 3rd edition of Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia Memorial English Parliamentary Debate from 16th - 18th April, 2021 in online mode, wherein many teams participated. The Debating Society organised ‘Shastrarth 2021’ the Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia Memorial Hindi Parliamentary Debate from 5th -7th February, 2021 wherein many teams participated. The Society also organized the 1stDyal Singh College Model United Nations from 20thFeb – 21st Feb, 2021 wherein students from different institutes played the role of delegates from different countries and attempted to solve real world issues with the policies and perspectives of their assigned country. The events were highly successful; there was a good presence of participants ranging from 100 to 300 participants from national to international level. Our student was Invited Adjudicator at 25th GCU Parliamentary Style Debating Championship, Lahore, Pakistan in March 2021, Delegate at Harvard- US India Initiative Conference in February 2021, Semi Finalist adjudicator at Pratijja 2021 organised by KIIT, Bhubaneswar in March 2021. Apart from this our students won many prizes in various Debating competitions organized by esteemed Institutes like IIT, Jammu, IITBHU, and many colleges of DU.
SPILLED INK: THE CREATIVE WRITING SOCIETY
THE CREATIVE WRITING SOCIETY, SPILLED INK hosted ‘Alliteration, 2021’ wherein the Inter-college English Slam Poetry competition ‘Verse Chorus Verse’, the Hindi Slam Poetry competition ‘Shaily’ and the Hindi Poetry competition Lafz-e-Mehfil were held on 10th and 11th April, 2021. The number of participants ranged from 60 to 100 in the three online events and the events were very well attended. Apart from this, the society organized Hindi Open Mic Competition – Dibbiya on 14th September 2020. It was preceded by week-long live sessions (from 7th Sept - 13th Sept) with different artists to promote the and raise funds for the NGO Goonj's Rahat Covid relief fund. Our gifting partner was NGO Abhilasha and an amount of ₹10,000 was raised by the students and contributed to Goonj. Also, the society organized the Paradox of Want, a Generative Writing Workshop held on 22nd August by our alumnus, Ms. Kanika Ahuja. It aimed to establish a reconnection as to how we see poetry and its multiple facets that are not so far removed from the self. The society organized an online Halloween writing competition, The Witch Hour on 23rd October 2020. The entries of all the winners were also published in The Pumpkin Project Magazine. Last but not the least, our students won more than 15 prizes in various events of creative writing and poetry. They won First prizes in Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology, BITS Pilani, etc.. and second prizes in Jesus and Mary College, Miranda House, Rajdhani college etc.
QUIZING SOCIETY
THE Quizing Society conducted its Annual Quiz Fest ‘Coues’ on 16th and 17th April, 2021. The event consisted of four quizzes, namely M.E.L.A., Bollywood, General, and India. They witnessed the participation of many teams from various colleges. Our students won more than 25 prizes in various competitions organized by Institutes of repute including First prizes in Atmanirbhar Bharat – Open India quiz organized by GkFactopedia, Schrodinger Science quiz organized by Motilal Nehru College and Constitution Quiz organized by Bharat Girl Up, third prize in UN@75 organized by India-Netherlands Youth Forum.
ASTITVA: THE THEATRE SOCIETY
ASTITVA organised ‘Aaina’ an online Inter-college Monoact competition on 10th April, 2021. There were many participants from various colleges in this event. Apart from this, the members actively took part in various inter-college contests like monologue competitions, short film making contests, production based competitions and won several accolades including the first as well as the third position in the first ever online production based competition, Playhouse organised by St Stephens College. One of the members of the society got nominated for the finals of the TFO Smartphone film making contest.
THE WESTERN MUSIC SOCIETY, RESONANCE
RESONANCE organised the Western solo singing and Western duet singing competitions on 5th April, 2020. Resonance also organized the Western instrumental competition on 6th April, 2021. These inter-college events were very well organized and well attended. RESONANCE collaborated with DU Beat and Music Basti, and organized an online fundraising event “Quarantunes” with the purpose of raising funds for Covid 19; A series of 10 Instagram lives of extremely talented musicians were put together over a period of 20 days in the month of May 2020. Audiences joined in large numbers during the live sessions and all the proceeds from the event went to the NGO to help them promote the noble cause. One of the society members is a North India Grade 8 topper in Drums; another is a Grade 6 guitarist. The students won prizes 1st prize in IIT Delhi, 2nd prize in Shaheed Rajguru College of Applied Sciences for women and other accolades in various events.
RUDRA: THE INDIAN CLASSICAL DANCE SOCIETY
RUDRA organised ‘Shivakriti’ Inter-college Classical solo dance competition and ‘Saarang’ Inter-college Folk solo dance competition on 5th April, 2021. There were many participants from various esteemed institutes and the events were well attended.
ZEST: THE WESTERN DANCE SOCIETY
ZEST organized ‘Bounce it up’ Inter-college Western solo dance competition on 9th April, 2021 in online mode. Students from many colleges participated in the event and the event was well attended.
