MATHEMATICAL SOCIETY “Mathopolis”
The students’ Mathematics Society ‘Mathopolis’ of Dyal Singh College is devoted to pursuing activities aimed at fostering interest in mathematics, its applications and in the creative expression of mathematical ideas. The society receives immense participation from the students as well as the teaching fraternity. Each year, the society organizes a fresher’s welcome function for the incoming batch, a two-day Mathematics Fest, lectures by eminent Mathematicians, an excursion for the students of the department and a farewell for the final year students.
SOCIETY ACTIVITIES
Freshers’ Welcome: 20th January, 2022: An online Fresher’s Welcome was organized to create a platform for new students to interact with their teachers and seniors. A fun filled atmosphere was created through interactive games and performances. Titles such as Mr. Fresher, Ms. Fresher, Mr. Well Dressed & Ms. Well Dressed were given to the winning participants.
Invited Talk: February, 2022: An online lecture was delivered by Dr. Ashish Mishra, Institute of Exact and Natural Sciences, Federal University of Para, Brazil on the topic of “The Beauty of Bijection”. Apart from delivering an interesting & knowledgeable talk, Dr. Ashish Mishra also shared a key fact with the students that he happens to be an alumnus of Dyal Singh College which inspired the students to learn from their notable alumnus.
Alumni Meet: 29th April, 2022: The Department organized its very first Alumni Meet in online mode in which more than 150 participants including 100 alumni, current year students and the faculty members of the department participated.Alumni participants ranged from the batch of 2003- 2006 to 2018-2021. Our esteemed speakers, being from various fields, enlightened the students on many topics, specifically guiding the current year students for suitable & successful career choices. It was a moment of nostalgia for all the alumni who were delighted to meet their teachers, seniors & juniors.
Farewell: 11th May, 2022: The much awaited offline event after reopening of college was ‘Farewell, 2022’. Students, in full zeal, organized a fun filled program for the departing batch. There were games, performances and competition to win titles of Mr. & Ms. Farewell along with Mr. & Ms. Well Dressed.
Online Fresher’s Welcome: 17th April, 2021: During the pandemic, an online freshers welcome was organized with participation of more than 150 students and the event culminated with the announcement of the titles of Ms. Fresher & Mr. Fresher.
ZETA 2020 – The Annual Departmental Fest: 25-26 February, 2020: The two-day event witnessed an augmented audience of students from different colleges of University of Delhi as well as other universities.
Seminar on Personality Development: 14th February, 2020: A strong positive self-image is the best possible preparation for success in life. In this spirit, the Mathematical Society conducted a seminar on personality development sponsored by Corporate Giant ‘Gillette’. The seminar enlightened the students on important aspects of personality development. A special interactive session was also planned for the students of third year.
Fresher’s Welcome: 22nd October, 2019: The freshers’ party named, AAGAAZZ, was organized with fantastic pomp and show. The event began with lamp lighting ceremony by teachers and was followed by fun-filled games, performances and competition for various titles like Mr. Fresher & Ms. Fresher.
Invited Lecture: 8th August, 2018: Prof. Sudesh K Srivastav, Department of Biostatistics and Data Science,Tulane University, New Orleans, LA, USA delivered a very informative lecture on “Bioinformatics: A Data Scientists’ Perspective”.
