ZOOLOGICAL SOCIETY

A Zoological Society is a group of student and teacher volunteers, associated with operation of various academic events, student general body elections and management of surveys, trips, seminars, projects and other educational activities for the benefit of students. The Zoological Society is actively involved in conducting various activities throughout the year. In academic year 2017-18, the Zoological Society organized its inaugural lecture on “Science Communication: Bridging the gap between Science and Society” by Shri Nimish Kapoor (Head, Science Films Division) from Vigyan Prasar, DST. It also organised two days Society Festival “ZOOPHORIA” which started with inaugural lecture by Dr. V P Kalia on “Green technologies to combat environmental pollution”. The departmental festival had various events including tattoo painting, quiz completion, debate competition, dumb charades, karaoke and photography competition. Students from various colleges of Delhi University participated in events and cash prizes were distributed to winners. 

Two days educational trip to Dehradun and Mussoorie was also organized where students visited National Sericulture Centre. In academic year2018-19, Zoological Society organised its Annual festival on 31st January and 1stFebruary 2019. The festival was started with the inaugural talk by Dr. Kailash Pandey, Scientist –E, ICMR-National Institute of Malarial Research on “Targeting Unusual Proteases of Malaria Parasitre: A new Approach in antimalarial Chemoptherapy”.  Student oriented talk for cracking competitive exams was also organized by “Career Launcher”. In the two day event, several activities were conducted including poster presentation, fashion show and photography completion. Canopy from different NGO’s were also put on in the festival. An educational trip was also organised to Bhimtal and Nanital for Sericulture and Environment management students. In the academic Year 2019-20, the Inaugural Lecture of the Society was on the topic “Biomedical Applications of Nanomaterials” and was conducted on 21st January 2020. The talk was delivered by Dr. Pratima Solanki from Special Center from Nanoscience, JNU.
