ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

Established in the year 1959, the Department of Mathematics is one of the oldest departments of Dyal Singh College. Since inception, the department has maintained a rich legacy of excellence in teaching and dedication towards students. The department has always been committed to provide a conducive atmosphere for the students where they can develop their analytical skills and can become competent users of mathematics and its applications. Under the able guidance of the University of Delhi, the department imparts learning in Mathematics for various courses offered in different degree programs of the university.

Degree Programs/Courses Offered

The department primarily offers following Courses: B.Sc. (H) Mathematics Program (3 Years); M.Sc. Mathematics Program (2 Years). B.Sc. (Program) Physical Science with Chemistry or Computer Science is offered in collaboration with Department of Chemistry, Computer Science and Physics. The department also offers Mathematics as one of their discipline subjects for the students of B.A. (Program). Interested students of other degree programs, offered in the college, have the opportunity to study courses of our department by opting Mathematics as their Generic Elective Course (GEC) and/or Skill Enhancement Course (SEC) papers.

DEPARTMENTAL FACILITIES

Practical Lab

The department has a well equipped computer lab (CRC) for its students. CRC has more than 70 desktop computers and a wired / wi-fi internet connection (100 Mbps MPLS-VPN) is provided by Delhi University Computer Centre (DUCC). In addition, the students can access and work with various software like MATLAB and SPSS version 22 provided by DUCC. The department encouragesstudents to use freeware like Linux, Maxima, SAGE etc.

Alumni

Our alumni are working in the field of academics as well as in the corporate sector. Many of our students are pursuing Post Graduation and Ph.D. courses in mathematics and its allied branches from renowned institutions like HRI Allahabad, IIT Bombay, IIT Kanpur, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Delhi etc. and some are pursuing MS from prestigious foreign universities of Germany, USA, UK, Australia etc.
