About the Department
The Department of Computer Science has been an integral and imperative part of the college representing its technological face. Since the establishment of B.Sc. (General) Course about 35 years ago, the department has undergone substantial changes in the number of courses it offers, as well as students and faculty members. Currently, the department offers two undergraduate courses, viz., B.Sc. (Honours) Computer Science and B.Sc. Physical Science with Computer Science. The department provides an exciting opportunity to learn, apply, and expand computer science knowledge, with roughly 400 students enrolled. In accordance with the new syllabus, the department offers a variety of computer science elective courses to students in addition to those required for these degrees. The department has 10 permanent faculty members including two professors. The department features well-qualified, hardworking and very sincere faculty dedicated to academic and overall development of students. The faculty members are actively involved in research with several amongst them engaged in guiding Ph.D. research scholars.
The department features two fully furnished, air-conditioned computer labs that have been upgraded in recent years with many new computers featuring the latest configurations. These computers run under the Ubuntu Operating System, emphasizing free and open-source software (FOSS) applications. The labs are equipped with overhead projectors, LAN connections with Ethernet, and high-speed internet, supporting smart classroom learning.
The Computer Science Department organizes various academic, technical, and cultural events throughout the academic session under the Computer Science Department Society—“COMEST.” Furthermore, the Department organizes parent-teacher meetings for constructive discussions on student progress, offers remedial classes to address learning gaps, and conducts mentor-mentee sessions for personalized guidance and support.
