The Department of Commerce, Dyal Singh College has made its mark felt everywhere and created a wreath of achievements since its inception in the year 1959. With 38 highly qualified and determined faculty members, the department has been able to stretch its limits on both academic and non-academic fronts. This is one of the largest departments with eight Associate Professors and majority of the faculty members possessing Ph.D degree. The department offers two of the most popular and sought after courses at undergraduate level namely B.Com (Hons.) and B.Com (Prog.), which are updated from time to time to cover a wide spectrum of interdisciplinary linkages and meet the current industry demands. These courses acquaint students with sought after knowledge, skills and abilities to let them step into the corporate world with much needed dynamism ,various post-graduate programmes both domestically and globally and professional courses like Chartered Accountancy, Company Secretary, and Chartered Financial Analyst among others.

The department aims to influence and inspire the associated minds to think out-of-box. The department has constantly been nurturing talent in both faculty members and students through various career workshops, guest lectures, symposia, conferences, FDPs on research methodology etc. Recently, it has also started with the first edition of ‘research paper writing workshop’ for students to pave the way for young researchers.  Also, the department conducts its two-day annual fest ‘COMMUNIQUE’ to give a platform to young minds to showcase their talents and leadership skills in a plethora of events. All such events have been coordinated with the persistent efforts of COMSOC- student body of the Department of Commerce. The department’s placement statistics have been phenomenal and in an increasing order with companies like EY Global, KPMG Global Services, FinEdge, and Credito Financial Services being the constant recruiters for the past couple of academic years. This academic year has witnesses about 100 companies recruiting more than 150 commerce students at an average package of INR 4.5 LPA. Moreover, more than 200 students have been hired as interns by 145 plus companies. With every single initiative undertaken, the Department of Commerce has grown by leaps and bounds.
