About the Department (Commerce)

The Department of Commerce, Dyal Singh College has made its mark felt everywhere and created a wreath of achievements since its inception in the year 1959. With 37 highly qualified and determined faculty members, the department has been able to stretch its limits on both academic and non-academic fronts. This is one of the largest departments with eight Associate Professors and majority of the faculty members possessing Ph.D degree. The department offers two of the most popular and sought after courses at undergraduate level namely B.Com (Hons.) and B.Com (Prog.), which are updated from time to time to cover a wide spectrum of interdisciplinary linkages and meet the current industry demands. These courses acquaint students with sought after knowledge, skills and abilities to let them step into the corporate world with much needed dynamism and help prepare leaders, managers, technocrats and academicians for future that can serve the society better and make this world a more worthwhile place to live.

The department aims to influence and inspire the associated minds to think out-of-box. Over a couple of years, the department has made its mark felt everywhere through various academic and non-academic workshops, seminars, symposiums, faculty development programmes, etc. In the wake of the recent outbreak of COVD-19, the department went an extra mile and adapted to the New Normal way of continuing teaching-learning process. From conducting webinars on contemporary topics like happiness and public policy, marketing reinvention to hosting a one-week online FDP on research methodology, the Department of Commerce has aced it all. The department’s placement statistics have been phenomenal and in an increasing order with companies like EY GDS, KPMG Global Services, PWC Actuarial Services, Apeiron Management Pvt Ltd., De Shaw, Grant Thorton, Genpact being the constant recruiters for the past couple of academic years. This academic year has witnesses about numerous companies recruiting more than 135 commerce students at an average package of INR 4.75 LPA. With every single initiative undertaken, the Department of Commerce has grown by leaps and bounds.
